Everything you need to know about entering the Skrive essay competition. These answers apply to the 2026 competition and may change for future editions.
About the competition
Who can take part?
Open to Ghanaians between the ages of 16 and 25. Each participant may submit one essay, and it must be entirely your own original work.
Is there a registration fee?
No. Taking part is completely free. We believe financial barriers should never stop talented young writers from participating.
Can I submit more than one essay?
No. Each participant may submit only one essay, so take your time and send your very best work.
Essay requirements
What format should my essay follow?
Essays must be at least 1,500 words, typed, double-spaced, in 12-point Times New Roman or Arial, and submitted as a PDF. Include a title page with your essay title, name, age, school and contact information.
Which sources should I use?
Original thinking comes first, but credible sources strengthen an argument. Use a mix of academic sources, government reports, news articles and expert interviews, and cite every source properly.
Can I write in a Ghanaian language?
Essays must be written in English so that judging is fair to everyone. You may include relevant quotes or terms in Ghanaian languages with a proper translation and explanation.
After you submit
What if I don't receive a confirmation?
Check your spam folder first. If you still haven't heard from us within 48 hours, email info@skriveorganization.com with your full name and the date you submitted.
Can I edit my essay after submitting?
No, submissions are final. Review your essay carefully before you send it, and consider asking a teacher or mentor to read it first.
What if my essay gets lost?
We keep multiple backups of every submission. Even so, keep a copy of your essay and your submission email for your records.
